Kenya

Kenya is situated on the eastern coast of Africa, set astride the Equator and bisected from North to South by the Great Rift Valley. It covers a total area of 580,530 square Kilometres, including 13,395 sq. km of inland water. Its Indian Ocean coastline stretches for 480 km. Nairobi, the capital of the country, is a colourful striking city 500 km inland from Mombasa, the major port on the Indian Ocean. Official languages are Swahili and English.

Above all are the wildlife sanctuaries: the 25 National Parks, devoted to the absolute protection of the indigenous flora and fauna; the 29 National Reserves, where wildlife coexist from time immemorial in perfect harmony with the pastoral nomadic tribes … These wild and lovely places vary in the abundance and variety of their animals, in scenery, in climate and altitude; from the famous savannah of Maasai Mara to the ornithological paradise of Lake Nakuru.

Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya's Capital, located at 1°16′S 36°48′E is a well-planned modern city of over three million inhabitants. Originally simply called ‘Mile 327’, it began in 1899 as a basic camp and supply depot for the construction workers building the Kenya-Uganda ‘lunatic express’ railway. To the indigenous inhabitants, Maasais – the proud and majestic nomadic pastoralists who have stuck to their culture to this day - it was known as Enkarre Nairrobi, ‘a place of cold water’ in the Maa language.

Meru National Park

Brilliant on a magnificent scale, the Meru and Kora sister parks feature luxuriant jungle, coursing rivers, verdant swamp, khaki grasslands and gaunt termite cathedrals all under the sky’s great blue bowl. Little visited and utterly unspoilt, few places are comparable to the remote and rugged atmosphere found here. Visitors can see Grevy's zebras, elephants, Bohor reedbucks, hartebeests, pythons, puff adders, cobras, buffalos and more than 427 recorded species of birds.

Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha – one of only two fresh-water lakes in the Great Rift Valley (which runs from the Red Sea to Southern Africa, dotted with many fresh and salt water lakes, crates and volcanoes) – was the first hydroport in East Africa and was the centre of the opulent ‘Happy Valley’ settler population during the colonial era in the early 20th century. The lake is home to over 350 species of birds and large families of hippos while its Crescent Island was one of the major sites for the shooting of ‘Out of Africa’ movie

Tanzania

Tanzania officially the United Republic of Tanzania is a country in East Africa within the African Great Lakes region. It borders Uganda to the north; Kenya to the northeast; Comoro Islands and the Indian Ocean to the east; Mozambique and Malawi to the south; Zambia to the southwest; and Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, is in northeastern Tanzania. German rule began in mainland Tanzania during the late 19th century when Germany formed German East Africa.

This was followed by British rule after World War I. The mainland was governed as Tanganyika, with the Zanzibar Archipelago remaining a separate colonial jurisdiction. Following their respective independence in 1961 and 1963, the two entities merged in 1964 to form the United Republic of Tanzania.

Arusha

Once a small trading post, its only significance being due to its geographical position in the Centre of Africa, mid-way between the Cape and Cairo, Arusha is today an agricultural town and a comfortable base for all safaris to the Northern part of Tanzania. The small town is also famous for its Tanzanite mines and boasts the Arusha National Park, just outside the city, a string of lovely lakes with a miniature volcanic crater hidden in a forest of Mahogany and Olive on the slopes of Mount Meru.

Rwanda

Human occupation of Rwanda is thought to have begun shortly after the last ice age. By the 16th century, the inhabitants had organized into a number of kingdoms. In the 19th century, Mwami (king) Rwabugiri of the Kingdom of Rwanda conducted a decades-long process of military conquest and administrative consolidation that resulted in the kingdom coming to control most of what is now Rwanda. The colonial powers, Germany and Belgium, allied with the Rwandan court.

Uganda

Uganda (Luganda: Yuganda), officially the Republic of Uganda (Swahili: Jamhuri ya Uganda[1]), is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the south-west by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, shared with Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda is in the African Great Lakes region. Uganda also lies within the Nile basin and has a varied but generally a modified equatorial climate.

Semiliki National Park

Semiliki National Park is one of the newest national parks in Uganda, made famous by the Sempaya Hot Springs. But the hot-springs are not for bathing as the water temperature is over 1000C. Try boiling an egg in it as a test. It should be hard-boiled after ten minutes. If you love a good nature tour, the park has primate creatures like grey-checked mangabey, red-tailed monkeys, elephants, chimpanzees, De Brazza’s monkey, pygmy antelope and many diverse species of birds.

Ethiopia

Ethiopia has a lot to offer to tourists: from the Blue Nile falls to world-class archaeological sites and warm and welcoming people. Ethiopian Airlines, which also has daily flights between Addis Ababa and Brussels, is marshaling massive operations worldwide with excellent services to incoming and outgoing tourists.

AWASH NATIONAL PARK

Awash National Park is a national park in Ethiopia. Spanning across the southern tip of the Afar Region and the northeastern corner of the East Shewa Zone of Oromia, this park is 225 kilometers east of Addis Ababa (and a few kilometers west of Awash), with its southern boundary along the Awash River, and covers 850 square kilometers of acacia woodland and grassland. The Addis Ababa - Dire Dawa highway passes through this park, separating the Illala Saha Plains to the south from the Kudu Valley to the north.

CHEBERA CHURCHURA NATIONAL PARK

Chebera Churchura National Park is a National Park located in Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region in the south west of Ethiopia. The park was founded by the regional government in 2005. The park covers 1,250 km2 and contains four types of habitat. Most of the park, 62%, is wooded grassland dominated by elephant grass, with montane woodland comprising 29% and woodland and riparian forest the rest. 37 species of large mammal, including African elephants, Buffalo, Greater Kudu, Defassa Waterbuck, Lion & Leopard

GAMBELLA NATIONAL PARK

Gambella National Park, also spelled Gambella National Park, is a 5,016 km2 (1,937 sq mi) large National Park in Ethiopia. It is the nation's largest National Park and is located several hundred kilometers from Addis Ababa. It was established in 1974, but is not fully protected and has not been effectively managed for much of its history. Gambella National Park has one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Ethiopia. Sixty-nine mammal species occur in the protected area, including Nile Lechwe, Sable Antelope, Tiang, Leopard, Lion & Mantled Guereza.

GONDAR CAMELOT OF AFRICA – World Heritage Site

Dubbed the Camelot of Africa, the city of Gondar — capital of Ethiopia from 1636 until the mid 19th century — combines a modern veneer with an architectural sensibility harking back to the Middle Ages. The city’s physical and architectural centrepiece is Fasil Ghebbi, a stone-walled Royal Compound containing half a dozen fairytale castles including the three-storey original built by Emperor Fasil in the 1630s. The Fasil Ghebbi UNESCO World Heritage Site also incorporates several more remote constructions, most notably the Church of Debre Berhan Selassie, with its beautifully painted interior.

NECHISAR NATIONAL PARK

Nechisar National Park is in Southwest Ethiopia. Its varied terrain spans escarpments, swamps and forest. Zebras and gazelles roam the vast savannah’s of the Nechisar Plains. The large, Brown-red Lake Abaya sits on the north side of the Mountains ``Bridge of God`` isthmus. To the south is Lake Chamo, known for its big Nile crocodiles. The park is home to many birds, including the rare Nechisar nightjar. A boat trip to Lake Chamo’s so-called crocodile market, a stretch of reed-lined sand flats populated by some truly gigantic crocodiles as well as a few pods of hippo and a wealth of aquatic birds.

ROCK-HEWN CHURCHES OF LALIBELA

The Rock-hewn Churches of Lalibela are monolithic churches located in the Western Ethiopian Highlands near the town of Lalibela, named after the late-12th and early-13th century King Gebre Mesqel Lalibela of the Zagwe Dynasty, who commissioned the massive building project of 11 rock-hewn churches to recreate the holy city of Jerusalem in his own kingdom. The site remains in use by the Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Church to this day, and it remains an important place of pilgrimage for Ethiopian Orthodox worshipers.

SIMIEN MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

Simien Mountains National Park is in Northern Ethiopia. Its rugged terrain includes escarpments, deep valleys and a high plateau. Tall peaks include the towering Ras Dashen mountain. Trails wind through the park to camps at Sankaber, Geech and Chenek. The central Gidir Got and Imet Gogo summit lookouts have panoramic views of sheer cliffs and the lowlands below. A Massive erosion over the years on the Ethiopian plateau has created one of the most spectacular landscape in the world.
