Flights from the Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park) to Zanzibar carry a strict maximum baggage allowance of 15 to 20 kg (33 to 44 lbs) total per person, which commonly caps checked items at 15 kg and hand luggage at 5 kg. Passengers must pack strictly in soft-sided duffel bags without rigid frames or hard shells so that handlers can squeeze the luggage into the aircraft’s small belly pods. Check-in at the airstrips requires a physical passport and must be completed at least 20 to 30 minutes before departure. For travelers carrying heavier equipment or souvenirs, excess baggage is subject to aircraft capacity and typically costs a fee of $3 USD per extra kilogram, though flying with guaranteed bulk luggage requires purchasing an additional "freight seat" in advance
